In recent years, the concept of data-based banking supervision has evolved to influence the dynamics between supervisors and supervised institutions. This de­ve­lopment, if accompanied by adequate implementation, undoubtedly improves the quality of banking supervision. However, data-based supervision does not automatically lead to real-time supervision. While it tends to reduce the time lag between the time of data collection and the time of analysis, which is positive, the data relevant for banking supervision is not constantly updated. In the future, it will be interesting to observe to what extent existing data can be enriched with new, ma­chine-analyzable data with a shorter time lag. For the moment, however, the lack of a real-time supervising capability turns out to be unproblematic. On the one hand, the need for such supervision in the banking sector is questionable.
